Guess who got glasses?

I was in the 4th grade when I got glasses.  I thought it was cool back then to have glasses and I think that it's still cool today to wear them, right?  Our eye doctor told us last year that Cade Carter was nearsighted but could probably hold off another year and boy was he right.  As he was given his eye test I was in AWE of what he could NOT read.  I sorta felt a little guilty because he kept telling me all year in 5th grade that it's hard to see the board at school. I told him just give it a few more months and we will go to our annual eye doctor appointment.  Well, he now has glasses!  He was also fitted for contacts and he  is doing wonderful with them.  I'm so proud of him.  He is getting to be such a mature young man.  We love  him so-glasses and all!

Grandmother Carter's 85th Birthday

July 28th was Grandmother Carter's 85th birthday.  Family members and Friends gathered at her house to wish her a Happy Birthday.   She is so special to all of us in so many ways.  After all, we gave Cade Carter her name! 

Yes, Cam had to wear his mohawk to the party.  I will be so glad when that thing grows out.  Another post about that later.

Current River, Van Boren Missouri

We went to the Current River in Missouri this summer and floated down the river.  Several families went and took the kiddos this year and we really had a great time.  The kids were well behaved and us adults enjoyed each others company.  At night, we played baseball down by the river. 

We ate dinner on the deck overlooking the river.

We took a little field trip up the mountain to Big Spring.  This marks the beginning of the river where it flows out of the ground and caves...pretty awesome.

As you can see, the steam coming off the water.  The water was so cold and of course it was 90 something degrees that evening. 

We had all the kids put their hand in the water to feel how cold the water actually is coming out of the ground.

A little history...

Natural History: The name says it all. Big Spring is indeed a big spring and the biggest in Missouri in terms of average daily discharge with some 276 million gallons of cool spring water (58 degrees Fahrenheit) flowing from it each day. This is one of the largest springs in the world. A dye-trace study has showed that dye introduced into a losing stream 39.5 miles away (near Mountain View) was detected at Big Spring 16 days later. This is the longest distance groundwater trace in the U.S. Large springs such as this depend on large areas of karst landscape to recharge them. The spring is at least 80 feet deep based on research dives.

Our Britt!

I'm going to be a bragging "Auntie!"  Britt graduated in May from the University of Memphis with her Bachelors Degree in Teaching.  She will be at Crestview this Fall working in 3rd grade.  Guess what grade Cam will be in...3rd!  When my mom retired last year from Crestview,  I was devastated that Cam didn't have anyone at the school to go to when he needed ice cream money, got sick... OR just needed someone to comfort him if needed...Now he's got Britt!  We are so proud of her! 

Fun at the Lake!

Going to the lake has become my passion-I love it. Who would have thought I'd like staying in a camping ground- I mean, hey, it's got air condition and in door plumbing..that's all you need, right? The Hunter Family joined us this past time and we all had fun as always. 



Me, Jaime, Jasper, Cam and Jansen rode the ranger to the lake and on our way we had this big bird fly out in front of us.  Jasper said "look, it's an Eagle!"  Jaime and I sorta just looked at each other and said, yeah, right, Jasper...I don't think so...Well boy, were we wrong....The eagle landed on a limb and as we were driving by a wooded area, Jaime looked up and just happened to see that Eagle once again.  That was pretty cool.  (It don't take much!)
